October 2009 Giant Pumpkin Weigh off this Weekend! October Family Reward Specials New Activities We have been building up to this weekend for months and we are so excited that the Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off is almost here. Some of the large pumpkins have already started to arrive. One of them is over 1,000 lbs and will be used for Russ Leno’s pumpkin carving on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. We have a ton of activities planned for this weekend and rain or shine there will be lots of things to do. Most of the activities are covered including almost all of our mazes and the ever popular jumping pillow. If you are bringing a pumpkin you need to arrive between 7:00 am and 10:00 am for registration. After 10:00 we will start with the FFA pumpkins and then move into the novice division. As soon as we are finished with the novice division we will start with the open division. We will break for lunch at 12:30 and then at 1:00 we will have the pumpkin drop by Sunset Helicopters. All of this will be on Saturday but don’t forget about Sunday because Russ Leno will be carving up more pumpkins and you will have to come and see the pumpkin pie eating contest. In addition, we will be dropping a huge pumpkin from a crane onto an unsuspecting car. That’s right another drop on Sunday, we just can’t get enough of it! This will be a great weekend and we want all of you to be a part of it. There is no parking fee and there is no admission fee to come see the pumpkins. If you want to do the activities (mazes, swings, slides, etc) we ask that you pay for our activity stamp. Below you will find a link to our Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off page. At the beginning of September we started our Bauman Family Rewards program and the response has been overwhelming. We brought in 100 Boulevard Cypress trees for our Family Rewards members and sold this $100 plant for $25. We sold out over a week ago. We currently have almost 500 people signed up, which far exceeds our expectations. As of the 1st of October our system is now updated so we can start accepting your cards every time you stop by the farm to make a purchase. To reward our customers we will be sending out coupons every quarter. The more times you stop by the farm and the more you spend the larger the coupons will be. Therefore, starting now make sure you have one of our employees scan your card when you check out or just tell them your name and we will make sure we will add that purchase to your total. In addition to the coupon books we will also have specials every month just for Bauman Family Rewards members. Every fall our greenhouses are stocked full of some of the largest and most beautiful mums you will ever see. The Family Rewards Special for October will allow you to Buy 2 Mums and Get the 3rd Mum Free! Every year we are always trying to develop new activities for our Harvest Festival. Our sister Sarah has been working overtime on a couple new additions. Her and her fiancé Ryan developed a wonderful corn maze in the shape of a Castle but as many of you may have heard our early September storm that blew through knocked down half of the maze. Fortunately, that was not the only project she has been working on. New this year you will find Sarah’s Mystical Maze in the back by the zip lines and it was built entirely out of plywood. From the outside the maze appears easy to navigate but once you get inside you find a much different situation. She designed a very difficult maze and one of the most treacherous aspects of the maze is that after a few turns all of the boards begin to look alike and its very hard to figure out which path you have already gone down and which one is the new one that leads you to the end. I think we have a new hit on our hands that will become a staple attraction at Bauman’s for many Harvest Festivals to come. You have to stop by during the month and give it a shot.
