Mother's Day Specials
1st Cooking Class
New Products

We are all running around the farm right now preparing for one of our busiest plant weekends of the year. Mother’s Day Weekend is always a fun weekend on the farm because it is so much fun seeing all the families coming out to spend time together and pick out the perfect basket or flower for the special mom in their life. We have some great specials for this weekend that might help you pick out the perfect gift.

All mothers coming to the farm on Sunday will receive a free Pink Dianthus, while supplies last. It is a beautiful true pink flower and it is our special gift to all of the moms that work so hard for all of us every day.

We have lots of husbands that come in looking for the perfect gift for their mom or wife but always have a hard time picking out which basket or flower to get. This year we are running a special on our gift certificates, which will allow mom to pick out exactly what she wants. You will get a $30 gift certificate for $25.

One of the requests that Barb, my mom always asked of us kids for Mother’s Day was to make sure she didn’t have to cook and clean. In honor of her we have a great sale in the bakery for Mother’s Day. Buy 1 pie and get the second one half off! We have a great selection of pies in the bakery and I am sure that you can find something that your mom would absolutely love. If there is something specific that your mom really enjoys be sure and call ahead and we would be happy to make one and put your name on it.

Many of you have been anxiously awaiting the menu for our first cooking class of the season, which is May 30th at 1:00 and the cost is $30. Dana, our fabulous Chef, just got back to me and has decided on making Paella, which is a Spanish dish that takes some of the freshest vegetables and seafood and puts them altogether to create an out of this world culinary experience. The dish is a great choice for the Month of May because Dana will be taking wonderful first of the season vegetables like peas and asparagus and combining them with fresh northwest seafood. In addition she is also preparing a delicious strawberry desert. I will never forget last years strawberry desert that featured the Honey Balsamic vinegar we carry in the store. I still use this recipe regularly at home and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for this class. I tried to get it out of her but she wanted it to be a surprise.

Be sure to check out the website for updates throughout the month. As the rest of the menu comes in I will post online. If you would like to sign up for the class do so ASAP, last year we sold out of several classes and we are anticipating this class filling up quickly as well. We do ask that you prepay when you sign up because we need to purchase the ingredients a week in advance and it helps us to know how much to buy. The response was so great last year and that was just our first year, I can’t wait to get this year underway.

Deb, who has been basically a second Mom to us Bauman kids because she has worked here for almost 15 years now, is taking charge of our Gourmet Food items in the store and has brought several new products into our mix. Many of you may be familiar with Bob’s Red Mill, which is a local mill providing organic and locally grown mill products to the Willamette Valley. Deb has picked some of their more popular items and made them available regularly at the store. One of the big hits has been the Flaxseed Meal, which contains Omega-3 fats, lignans and dietary fiber that are essential to a good diet. One thing that we also learned is that Flaxseed makes a good substitute for eggs in baking.  If there is something that you get at Bob’s Red Mill that we are not carrying please let us know as we are still finding out what products we should be carrying from them.

Another hit has been the Morning Glory Muffins from Sticky Fingers Bakeries. The cute packages make it a great gift item but the muffins that the mix makes are absolutely wonderful. All that you need to do is add water, oil and egg and then bake. Pam Lamb, a great friend, and regular customer tried them out a couple weeks ago and was promptly back the following week to buy more because she said they were absolutely delicious.

Austin and Ally will be arriving soon and their mother has requested some planters for the back porch for Mother’s Day. I will let them pick out some of their favorite flowers and then we will plant it all up together. You are welcome to bring your children out with you too and enjoy the farm, the barn animals (including our new baby goats), and all the beautiful flowers. We'll be happy to help you create the perfect Mother’s Day gift. As a side note we will be open this Sunday from 9 to 4. We hope to see you all soon.

Sincerely,

Brian Bauman
