MARCH 2008
Okay, I know we are a little late this month getting the newsletter out but I am so excited about all the things happening on the farm right now. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Brian and I am the oldest kid in Rick and Barb's clan. First I wanted to thank everyone who came up to the Yard Garden and Patio show last month and saw our booth, which took first place in its division for the third straight year. Also, I wanted to let you know about the beautiful new greenhouse going up next to the house. I hope all of you will get a chance to stop by and see the construction. My sister and mom included some things below that will let you know about the many other things happening on the farm right now.

Hi there this is Sarah (the youngest). I’m so excited! The Easter bunny is on his way. This year on Saturday, March 22, 2008, we will be holding the 6th annual Easter egg hunt here at Bauman Farms. We will have two different age classes, 1-6 and 7-12, this allows all of the children to have an equal opportunity to collect their eggs. The fee will be $3 per child and for each child one dollar will be donated to the MS society of Oregon. No matter the weather, the show will go on; however the event will be outside so make sure that you and your children are dressed appropriately for the weather.
If any of you were out to visit the farm during October you know that the new "hit" this year with the kids was the Jumping Pillow. The jumping pillow will be open the day of the easter egg hunt from 10am-3pm. The price will be an additional $3 per child for an unlimited jumping time. Similar to the easter egg hunt, one dollar from each admission will be donated to the MS Society.
The MS Society is very important to our family. Our grandfather Alton Zollner fought Multiple Sclerosis for much of his life. The MS Society is hosting the "Walk for MS" in downtown Portland on Saturday, April 12th. It is a 5K walk or run through the streets of Portland. We have set up a team for the event named 'Bauman Believers.' If you are interested in joining our team or donating to the cause you may do so at the following link: http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR?pg=team&fr_id=8131&team_id=116752
Donations can also be made at the farm. Every penny helps us in the fight against MS.

And now a note from mom (Barb). Since the first of the year we have watched the price of many of our supplies go through the roof. In the bakery, the price of a bag of flour has double since November. In addition, delivery fees and gas surge charges are being added on top of the huge price increases on all our seeds, plant materials, fertilizer & packaging. Unfortunately, we have had to increase some of our prices to adjust for these changes. We realize that it is hard for all of us to deal with these increasing prices; therefore we have decided to take different items every week and put them on sale to help reduce this burden. Every week we are choosing a different Pie and putting it on sale for $7.95 for regular and $8.95 for sugarless. For Easter week, March 19th through Tuesday March 25, we have chosen Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. We are also choosing a frozen berry and putting one on sale every week. This week the berry is Strawberries on sale for $2.00 lb, which are regularly priced at $2.95 lb.
It is hard on everyone when the price of our food rises so quickly but we are confident that at Bauman's you will find the freshest produce at great prices. Especially during the summer we will be able to supply your family with great produce at a lower price than anywhere else because we do not have to pay for it to be trucked across the country. Instead we pick it fresh daily from our fields in the morning so that at night your family can enjoy a great meal together. Having a great meal with my family has always been important to me even if that means bringing the meal out to my husband in the fields as he works. |

Brian here again, as you can tell there is a lot going on. I have one last thing that I wanted to let you in on. April 25th through the 27th, we are going to being putting together Bauman's Northwest Artist Showcase, which will highlight some of the talent of local artists. We will be using this event to kick off spring. It is going to be a fun event. Honewood winery will be serving Mimosa's and sparkling wine drinks all morning on Saturday. There is so much to tell you but I will save some of it for next month. We look forward to seeing all of you soon.
Thanks from the Bauman Family.
