JUNE 2007

We are so excited on the farm right now because it is such a great time of the year. It seems like everyday there is something new coming up from the fields and we are getting to the point where we don't know where we are going to put everything. The main item that is new right now is Raspberries, which is one of our tried and true favorites. In addition we also have some new plants in the greenhouse, including Easy Elegance Roses. This weekend would be a great time to come in and take a look at these new things because we are offering FREE Strawberry Shortcakes to dads on Saturday.

We started with just a couple Raspberries last week and we are now beginning to get in a nice quantity daily. Raspberries are very different from strawberries because they are just as sweet and delicious the first day that we pick them as they are the last day. For that reason you can get Raspberries to freeze or make jam any time you are ready for them. You don't have to wait until they get enough sunshine. We do have quite a bit coming in everyday right now but it is always a good idea to order your berries ahead of time. That way we can make sure that they are ready for you when you get here.

Unfortunately as of last week we had sold out of every Rose that we had grown from the root stock we received this winter. Fortunately, we were able to get some new roses in from Bailey Nursery, which is located in Yamhill, that are appropriately entitled Easy Elegance. People are always asking us for roses that are easy to take care of and while these roses are not disease free, they are some of the most disease resistant roses that I have seen. This is what their website (http://www.easyeleganceroses.com/) had to say about them, "We've developed a rose collection that everyone, even the most casual gardener, can easily grow and enjoy. There's never been an easier way to have a beautiful garden." The varieties that we got in are: Centennial (pictured), Grandma's Choice, Hero, and Last Tango.

One of Bauman Farm's annual traditions is to have free strawberry shortcakes for Dad's on the Saturday before Father's Day. Ladies this may be your one chance to convince your husband or father to come shopping with you. Have the kids go out and play with the animals and get your husband or father a shortcake and have him watch the kids while he eats and then you are left to do your shopping in peace and quiet. All the while you have made everyone happy.

As you can tell there is a lot going on right now on the farm and we are just getting started. We will do our best to keep you up to speed on what berries and produce are coming on and more importantly when they will be ending for the year. For strawberries you only have about a week and a half left before the season will be over until next year. Therefore, I wouldn't wait too long to enjoy them before they are gone. We wish all Dads a happy Father's Day weekend and we hope that all of you take a chance to come down and see us. See ya soon!
