Yard Garden & Patio Show
Farm Tour in Georgia
Strawberries on Sale

January and February are suppose to be the slowest time of the year on the farm, but this year the entire farm has been alive with activity. There are so many things going on that I'm not sure where to start and I hope I don't miss anything. I think the best way to start is to give you a run down on what all of us are working on right now.

Brian, I am the oldest kid, I have been working hard for the past two months getting ready for the Yard Garden and Patio Show. The show is Feb 27th – March 1st. To the right you can see a picture of the beginning stages of our booth. We are using Birch Tree branches for decorations and it is going to be amazing! I can't wait to show the finished product to you. We really hope that you will come to the show and check it out. For the first time this year I will be doing a seminar at the show on Saturday at 12:30. The title of the discussion is Sustainable Container Gardens and I will talk about different things that we can do in our container gardens that help keep us healthy and happy and the environment healthy and happy. It's my first talk and I would love for some support from all of our great customers.

Jeremiah, the second oldest and Amie's husband, has been very busy out back planting hundreds of baskets every day and we are still pressing cider. If you would like us to plant up a special combination for you then now is the perfect time to drop by and let us know what you would like. Jeremiah is also very busy installing a new Point of Sale system on the farm. We will bring you more information in March as we get closer to putting it all together.

Rick, is the main boss and Jose, the main boss's right hand man, have been working non-stop putting up a new pole barn out back. With the rising costs of hay we have decided to build a barn to store a lot of the hay that we use during October. They also built a new entrance into the retail greenhouse that was built across from the store. So many people didn't notice the greenhouse before and if they noticed it didn't think that they could go inside. Well, you can't miss it now and you can't help but go and take a peek inside. It's absolutely beautiful, you will have to come and see for yourself.

Barb, the main boss's boss, is so busy it's hard to put everything that she is working on into just a couple sentences. She just got back from Georgia where she went on a tour of several farms from the area to get ideas on what we can do better on our own farm. And of course, she is running throughout the store trying to do her winter cleaning and get ready for the spring. For us there is no time to do spring cleaning so everything gets done in the winter.

Sarah, the youngest kid, also was able to go on the tour in Georgia. Since she is the youngest it was a good opportunity to see how a lot of other farms put things together and it was also a good opportunity for her to network with other Farm Direct Companies from all over the U.S. She has also been busy helping Jeremiah with the new POS system and also working on the Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off. Speaking of the Weigh Off, we are currently looking for sponsors to help with the event. We are trying to get as many different local companies and organizations involved so that we can raise enough money to keep the giant local vegetables in the Northwest. Currently many of the largest pumpkins and vegetables get shipped to southern California because the communities are more involved down there and they have larger prize money. If you would like to participate please contact us and look for more information under our events section on the website.

As you can tell we all have been very busy. A couple other notes that I wanted to pass along to you were some sales that we are having on the farm right now. We are about to get our new shipment of pottery for next year, which means we need to sell the rest of our inventory from last year. Therefore, all of the pottery is Buy 1 Get 1 Free! This will only last till the end of February so come in and get yours before they are gone.

StrawberriesAlso during the month of February we are featuring a different berry every week and each week we put all the products made from that berry 25% OFF. This week it is Strawberries, which means Strawberry Jam, Strawberry Rhubarb Jam, Strawberry Rhubarb Pies, and of course frozen Strawberries are all 25% OFF.

One last reminder is the announcement of our 2nd Annual Greenhouse Gallery Art Show that will be held this year on April 25th and 26th. I will have information up under the events section of the website soon. If you know someone who would like to participate in the show please drop us an e-mail and I will get you the entry form to fill out. We sold out the booths last year and had a great show. We can't wait for this year's show.

Thank you for all your support of our family farm and please stop by and say hi soon.
