FEBRUARY 2008
Hi there everyone, it is shaping up to be a very busy year here at the farm. Greenhouses are in full swing, preparations are being made for the Yard Garden and Patio Show, the garden is being renovated, and we have some great sales going on. As most of you know we were closed from Christmas Eve though January 6th, during that time we enjoyed some down time with the family. But that is all of a break that we take. We are glad to say we are now open Monday through Saturday 9-5 and we would love for you to stop in and say hi.
The start of a new year means that it's time to kick things into full gear in the greenhouses. Every day we are receiving new plant material and planting basket after basket for the spring. We will receive over 50,000 new plants in the next few months to be put into baskets and planters. If you are looking for a specific combination or color palette for your baskets this spring now is a great time to come in and place special orders so that we are able to have them big and beautiful for you by spring, but time is running out so make sure to come in soon!

While you're out take a minute to look at our progress as we renovate our display garden, adding new flower beds and creating a new and improved picnic area. We have also moved the playground to an area just north of the animal barn. Austin, Brian's 5 year old son always wanted to run from the playground to the animal barn and it always made us nervous. By moving the playground children can now run in between the playground and the animal barn without crossing traffic. We are also planning on putting a new picnic area next to the playground which will make it easier for families to enjoy lunch or snacks together on the farm.

Don't forget to save the date and come visit us at the Yard Garden and Patio Show at the Portland Convention Center February 15, 16, & 17. This will be our third year at the show. The past two years we have been very excited to win Best of Show and Best in Division 'Nursery'. We are going to do our best this year to make it a three-peat. We are pulling out all the stops and working on creating a one of a kind display. In addition we will have an entry in the container show. This year we will be partnering with Daria and Mitch from 105.1 the Buzz to auction off a container to benefit the Oregon Humane Society. There will be twenty different containers from twenty different nurseries that have paired with local celebrities to create some amazing works of art. All of these containers will be a part of a silent auction and bidding will start at $250 and I will tell you that our container will be valued well over $1000. It's a great opportunity to support a great charity and to get your hands on a beautiful container at an amazing price.

When you head out to the farm be sure to stop by the bakery for some great tastes and some great sales. Be sure to pick up a tasty cherry pie. Right now our cherry pies are only $7.95. During the slower winter months it is our chance to try new and fun recipes in the kitchen; one new item which has quickly become a Bauman family favorite are the Marion berry pie crust bites, a little spin on the classic pie crust bites.
Come on in, escape the cold weather with a cup of hot coffee or cider, spend some time with us, check out the sales and keep an eye on all the workings around the farm. We will be looking forward to seeing you this year!
