We will be closed this Saturday August 7th for a family wedding. The youngest Bauman daughter is getting married and we are all excited to celebrate this wonderful occasion. We couldn’t leave any of our extended family (all of our staff) out of the festivities so we unfortunately need to close down for the day. But don’t worry we will reopen on Monday with our normal business hours of 9-6 Monday through Friday and 9-5 on Saturdays.

Christmas FireplacCan you believe it’s August already? We think it’s because of the really cool and damp start to the summer but August has definitely snuck up on us. Many of you have been out and commented on how beautiful our hanging baskets look but we are going over them with a fine tooth comb right now because we know that when August arrives so do the cut worms.

Cut worms can easily eat every blossom off your entire basket within just a couple days. What you need to look out for is some bite size holes in your flowers. In the summer butterflies lay their eggs in baskets and when they hatch the little worms are very hungry and their favorite food is your beautiful flowers on your hanging basket. We have a safe and easy method to take care of these little critters.

Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew to the rescue! It is by far the best stuff on the market and it’s very safe to use. It contains an active ingredient, Spinosad, that is derived from naturally occurring bacteria and thus is completely safe and approved for Organic Gardening on all your hanging baskets, vegetables, and bedding plants. But what makes Captain Jack’s different from all the rest is that its special formula will kill the worms on contact and also when they ingest the flowers and leaves. This is so special because it means you don’t have to be out spraying all the time. When you first spray it will kill anything it touches and even if new ones appear days later or if some that were in side come out for a bite it will take care of them as well. It works really well and we recommended it for everyone who has a hanging basket and wants them to keep flowering into the fall.

GardenpaloozaAugust is a great time for canning. The best veggies for canning and pickling are in full force now; beets, carrots, green beans, & pickling cucumbers are coming in by the pallet full every morning. If you are planning on canning anything, give us a call before you come in and we can set bags aside for you so that they are ready to be picked up when you get here. We also have great quantities of dill and garlic available for all of you pickle makers.

GardenpaloozaThere is a lot to say about August but by far the best part is…CORN! Unfortunately the cool weather lately has set us back. We started picking about two weeks ago but we are currently out of our corn until Monday. Corn is also the family rewards member special for August. Anyone who is a part of our family rewards program can purchase our Super Sweet corn at 4 ears for $1.00. Having a big family BBQ soon? Give us a call and we will get it all bagged up and set aside for you.

MadisonWe also want to take a step backwards and tell you about something very important that happened in July. On July 20th Barb and Rick’s oldest daughter Amie and her husband Jeremiah welcomed baby girl #2, Madison Grace, into the family. She was born at 12:15am and weighed 8lbs 1oz. Mommy, Daddy, Madison, and big sister Hailey are all doing great and are grateful for all of the blessings being sent their way!

We hope you enjoy the warm days of summer, and that you will come see us soon!
