apple pieHappy spring everyone…
Hard to believe that it's spring already! With spring comes Easter, and you know what that means…Easter Egg Hunt. This Saturday April 3rd will be our 8th Annual Easter Egg Hunt here at Bauman Farms. Rain or shine the show will go on. If we end up with a few showers it won't be the first time, but that’s ok, sometimes the rain makes it more fun (for the kids anyway), and we always have hot coffee ready for all of the adults. The hunt will begin at 1:00pm although if you wish to come earlier the jumping pillow will be opening at 10am. Following the hunt we will be having Easter cookie decorating classes; the classes begin at 2:00 and will be held every fifteen minutes until 3:00. For the full details on the event check out our website or give us a call at (503) 792-3524.

Christmas FireplacAlso this Saturday we will be staffing a booth at Gardenpalooza. Gardenpalooza is a yearly garden show that features many local nurseries and artists. It is held at Fir Point Farms in Aurora. At the show this year we will have many of our newest plants and garden crafts available for sale. We will also be having special promotions and coupons that will be exclusive to the show. Make sure you come out and see us on Saturday at Gardenpalooza; and don’t worry, our booth is undercover!

Gardenpalooza
April also holds our Greenhouse Gallery Art Show! This year will be the 3rd year that we are hosting this event; it will be April 24th & 25th. We are already almost sold out of booth spaces. So far the artists that have signed up have a wide array of talents, from photography and painting to metal art and glass works.

Once again this year we will be celebrating with mimosas in the morning, can’t get much better than that! The popular garden show ‘Garden Time’ will be airing a special segment about the show. Our art show will be the kick off of our Giant Pumpkin season! Giant pumpkin plants, and seeds, will be available for sale beginning that weekend. We will have professional pumpkin growers from the group Pacific Giant Vegetable Growers on site to help with any questions that you may have!

The show will also be the kickoff for sales of our rubber ducks for ‘Wish Upon A Falling Pumpkin’ our fundraiser benefiting The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oregon. The weekend of the Art Show is a weekend packed full of great plants, great art, great people, and hopefully lots of sunshine so make sure not to miss it!

wreathIf you have been in the store lately you may have noticed a new display that has popped up. We are now carrying Lamb products. We have lamb chops, legs, sausage, ground lamb, rack of lamb; you name it. We also have the ability to special order a cut for you if you don’t see the one you are looking for. All of the lamb products are from a local company, SuDan Farms, out of Canby, Oregon. When it comes to getting fresh local products it’s hard to beat this lamb, check out our website for prices and recipe ideas.

Hanging BasketsAlso in the store something else has shown up lately. Can you guess what it is? Hanging baskets! That’s right, we have recently brought up from the back greenhouses the first few loads of hanging baskets for the season. We are very early in the season this year but with a spring like we have been having its hard not to bring them up. Not only have hanging baskets shown up but so many more plants are coming up. Every day it seems like the greenhouses have completely transformed.

Because we are so early in the season this year it is very important that you make sure to protect any annuals that you take home in the case that we get a frost.  We are hoping that any chance of a frost has passed but with the weather here in the northwest it is hard to predict. If we do come across another frost, just bring your hanging baskets inside the garage for the night or cover any bedding annuals with a sheet or light blanket and they should be just fine!

We know that this winter was very hard on a lot of our local perennials, and if you are anything like us, you probably lost some plants and shrubs in your yard. We know that this is an issue with a lot of gardeners and in order to help as much as we can we have stocked our greenhouses full of some fantastic trees, bushes, shrubs, herbaceous perennials and so much more. We have some really neat packs of perennials that include six one gallon perennials for only $25.00. Maybe you didn’t lose plants this winter but they are struggling a little. In order to help we brought in an extensive line of organic fertilizers.  From azaleas, rhododendrons, & meyer lemons, to petunias, tomatoes, & apple trees there is a fertilizer for just about anything! We also have a great line of products to help with moss, mold, and bugs. Some are even safe to use on your vegetables!
